SUGARCUBE | ALEXANDER PEDALS
Handmade pedals with a positive effect.
Founded by seasoned effects designer Matthew Farrow, Alexander Pedals handcrafts exciting effects and accessories in the small town of Garner, North Carolina. Intended to be “instantly familiar yet completely unique,” the brand’s builds are some of the most satisfying and original on the market, but as their architect would have it, they affect much more than just your tone.
Named for Farrow’s late brother Alex who passed away from neuroblastoma (a form of cancer) in 1987, Alexander Pedals’ mission goes beyond providing players with mold-breaking effects. AP actively participates in the fight against childhood cancer by donating a portion of the profits from every pedal to charity, encouraging even those who’ve bought one second-hand to join in the effort.
But is that why you should buy an Alexander Pedals? No. It’s one reason, and it’s certainly enough on its own, but the benefits of AP’s effects speak lovingly––and loudly––for themselves.
Sugarcube Stereo Chorus
AP’s newest pedal, the Sugarcube Stereo Chorus, Vibrato, Rotary, serves up the sweetness of your favorite choruses, laying on a scoop of classic ‘80s vibes with an optional sprinkle of rotary or vibrato action. Top it some pitch-shifting, MIDI connectivity, and four easily accessible parameters with alternate functions, and you’ve got a loaded stompbox sundae, cherry and all.
Superball Pitch Shifter/Delay
Put some bounce in your board with Superball, an utterly bonkers pitch shifter/digital delay pedal that uses a master LFO to modulate all the delay parameters simultaneously. Sculpt the top or bottom of an LFO waveform and sync it tap tempo, or let it run free. For some real fun, try Bounce mode. Set the wave, the rate, and how many times you want the effect to bounce. The modulation decreases in intensity with each bounce, just like a Superball.
Super Neo-Matic Delay
Limited to just 100 units, the Alexander Pedals Super Neo-Matic Delay Modulator replicates the sounds of the legendary Pefftronics Randomatic. When in vintage mode, the Super Neo-Matic acts as a spot-on sonic likeness, mimicking the original pedal’s distinctive 8-bit codec. But unlike the Randomatic, you don’t have to pay four-figure prices to get it. And when you switch the mode to Modern, you get the same functionality, but with expanded, 24-bit, ultra-high-fidelity processing for a more contemporary take.
Help yourself to pedalboard-pushing design, and lend a little help to others in the process.
