Description

The Kirk Hammett "Greeny" 1959 Les Paul Standard from the Gibson Custom Shop stands as a testament to the legacy of one of the most iconic guitars ever made. "Greeny," originally owned by Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac and later by Gary Moore of Thin Lizzy, is now in the hands of Kirk Hammett. This guitar is renowned for its distinctive out-of-phase middle switch position due to the neck pickup’s reversed magnetic polarity, contributing to its unique sound. The Gibson Custom Shop, through the Murphy Lab, has meticulously aged this instrument to mirror the original, offering an Indian rosewood fretboard and a brown/pink Lifton™ reissue 5-latch case, allowing players worldwide to capture the magic of "Greeny."

Carrying forward Orville Gibson’s vision of sonic excellence and aesthetic perfection, the Gibson Custom Shop employs a blend of traditional craftsmanship and innovative techniques to create instruments that uphold their slogan, “Only a Gibson is Good Enough.” This guitar, with woods hand-picked by CME’s expert team and one of their favorite finishes, combines preferred fingerboards, neck profiles, pickups, and hardware for a customized experience. The Murphy Labs Division, established in 2017, enhances this legacy with scientifically reverse-engineered nitrocellulose lacquer, identical to that used on ‘50s and ‘60s Gibson guitars. Each instrument is meticulously aged by hand, featuring extra-rolled fingerboard binding for a genuine broken-in feel and look.
